We have used Rythmia’s own published figures rather than second-hand summaries, and we have linked them. The goal is not to talk you out of Rythmia. It is to show you where the two differ, so you can tell which one fits what you are after.
Rythmia Reviews: The most-measured retreat in the category
Rythmia publishes more outcome data than any other retreat in the category. They report 23,767 guests since 2016, 98.12% of whom say they received a life-changing miracle during their stay, and 93.42% who say six months later that it is still working. They also list more than 2,800 five-star Tripadvisor reviews. They are self-reported, collected by Rythmia, and they use a word Rythmia chose.
Do your own research before booking anywhere. Rythmia’s pricing page carries the figures quoted above. Rythmia’s five-star count is on its own site. The three and four-star reviews are the ones worth reading, because they say what worked and what did not, and they are the hardest to find because every platform sorts them last. Look for what reviewers say about the hours between ceremonies. A seven-day programme has five of them with nothing scheduled, and that is what people either value or struggle with.
Why People Look for Alternatives to Rythmia
Rythmia does what it does well, and people still look for alternatives for a few consistent reasons:
- Price - Rythmia starts at 4,900 USD for seven days, and the medicine is paid separately on site, which puts the real total higher again.
- Group size - their own figures average roughly 46 guests a week, and some people want a room small enough to count
- Tradition - Rythmia’s site names no lineage, shaman or tradition. The framing is a medically supervised programme. Some people feel specifically called to a lineage, particularly the Colombian yagé one
- Scale - Rythmia publishes no per-retreat cap, and weekly retreats at their volume mean a large room.

Rythmia solved a real problem. Before it existed, someone in Ohio who wanted to drink ayahuasca safely had almost nowhere legitimate to go, and Rythmia built a licensed, medically supervised, professionally run answer to that. That deserves credit.
Where I part company is the scale and the framing. Their own numbers work out at roughly 46 guests a week, every week, since 2016. A shaman can hold a room that size. What gets harder at that size is knowing who is in it.
The other thing I would want you to notice is the structure. The medicine is paid for separately, to a third party, on site, and it is described as optional. There are sound legal reasons for that arrangement. It also means the ceremony sits slightly outside the thing you booked.
At Harmonica the ceremony is the thing you booked, the person pouring it trained in the lineage it comes from, and there are eleven other people in the room at most. You give up the programme and the licensed facility to get twelve people and a lineage. It is a smaller, rougher, less programmed week, and for some people that is worse.
What would change our answer: if Rythmia published a per-retreat cap under twenty, or if a Colombian-lineage centre opened with a licensed on-site clinic, the group-size argument on this page stops working. Neither has happened yet, and we will say so here when it does.
A licensed facility protects you against one class of risk and not the other. It covers the risks that come from bad operations: no medical cover, no screening, nobody who knows what to do if your blood pressure drops. It does not protect you against the risk that matters more often, which is being one of fifty people on a night when you need somebody to notice you.
Those are different failure modes and they call for different answers. If your worry is medical, the licence is the better safeguard and you should weigh it heavily. If your worry is being lost in a crowd at the worst moment of the night, the licence does nothing for you, and only the room size does.

There is one more number worth putting next to the price. Rythmia is seven days at $4,900 before medicine, so roughly $700 a day. A week with us is $1,350, so roughly $190 a day, and the medicine is included. Both figures exclude flights.
That narrows the real gap, and it still leaves a factor of nearly four. What the extra buys is the property, the food, the classes and the licence. It does not buy more ceremonies, and it does not buy a shaman with a longer lineage behind him.
The decision is narrow. If you want the week structured around you, Rythmia is the better answer. If you want the ceremony to be the structure, we are.
