If you are considering a meditation retreat in Colombia, first get clear on how central you want meditation to be. At Harmonica, we run ayahuasca retreats at a finca near Medellín, and meditation supports preparation and integration around ceremony. Some centres build the whole stay around silence and meditation practice.
We are not a standalone silent-meditation centre. Some people know they want sustained silence and no plant-medicine ceremony. Others are circling ayahuasca and want meditation to help them approach the experience in a grounded way.
Harmonica may fit the second intention. If silence and meditation are your full intention, I would point you toward a dedicated silent or Vipassana centre.

Meditation Retreats in Colombia Use Different Containers
A dedicated silent or Vipassana retreat makes sustained meditation the centre of your stay. Silence supports the practice, and the retreat is arranged around that intention.
At Harmonica, ayahuasca ceremony is central to the retreat. Meditation has a supporting role before and after ceremony. Calling both formats a meditation retreat can create confusion because the experience you are signing up for is very different.
We host over 30 ayahuasca retreats each year, and people do sometimes arrive with expectations taken from another kind of retreat. Someone expects many hours of silent practice, while the retreat they booked centres ceremony. Another person books a silent retreat while hoping somebody will help them explore ayahuasca.
Ask about the central practice before you pay. The answer tells you much more than the word “meditation” on a retreat description.

How Meditation Fits Our Retreat Work
Meditation at Harmonica is a practice you can join and also something we use around ayahuasca ceremony. Álvaro facilitates the meditation class in Medellín, which is available as a public group session or a private booking. This gives you the choice of practising with a group or arranging a private session.
Meditation before ceremony gives you time to notice how your mind responds when you stop feeding it constant stimulation. Your thoughts might settle. Or you may spend twenty minutes thinking about work, your relationship, the flight home, and everything you forgot to do.
That does not mean the meditation failed. You are beginning to see the coping mechanisms and thought patterns that are already there, and by seeing them with less distraction, you have more chance of recognising them during ceremony.
Meditation Before and After Ceremony
Meditation is used as preparation before ceremony and as part of integration afterwards. Before ceremony, it can help you observe expectations without needing to follow every one of them. After ceremony, it gives you quiet time to sit with the insights that came up.
I like to say ayahuasca is a conversation you are having with yourself in an extraordinary state through the plant. Meditation does not remove your responsibility after that conversation. You still decide which actions to take, which relationships need attention, and which old habits you keep returning to.
A ceremony may show you that you need better boundaries. Meditation can give you time to stay with that realization before sending five messages or making a large decision at 3:00 in the morning. The homework remains yours.
We also use breathwork for preparation and integration. Meditation and breathwork give you different ways to observe what is happening inside without forcing ceremony to produce a particular vision or emotional release.
Preparing for a Meditation Session
General preparation for a session is simple:
- Avoid a heavy meal for two to three hours beforehand so you are not sitting with a full stomach.
- Wear comfortable clothes that do not keep pulling your attention back to tight buttons or stiff fabric.
- Arrive early so you have time to settle before the session begins.
Preparation helps, but you do not need to arrive with a perfectly quiet mind. Trying to force yourself to stop thinking often creates more tension because now you are thinking and judging yourself for thinking.
The Retreat Takes Place Outside Medellín
Our ayahuasca retreat near Medellín takes place at a finca about one hour from Laureles and Poblado. Use that hour as the planning figure when arranging your arrival.
The finca gives the retreat a separate base from the neighbourhoods where many visitors stay. You can travel from Medellín without treating the retreat as another appointment squeezed between lunch and evening plans.
Somebody looking for a meditation retreat in Medellín may want a class they can attend and then return home. In that case, the public meditation class may fit better. Somebody wanting several days around ceremony is making a different commitment, even if both people begin with an interest in meditation.
Facilitation is available in English or Spanish. Bring your language preference into the booking conversation so you know how the retreat will be held for you.
Choose Silence or Ceremony Based on Your Intention
Harmonica is a fit to consider when you want ayahuasca ceremony and want meditation to support your preparation and integration. You do not need previous meditation experience to ask whether this format suits you, and you also do not need to pretend that meditation is your main reason for coming.
If your main intention is sustained silence, choose a dedicated silent-retreat centre. Harmonica will not turn into that format because you enjoy meditation or because the word feels safer than ayahuasca.
There is also the opposite situation. A person may feel drawn toward plant medicine but wants somebody else to decide whether the calling is real. Meditation can create some space around that uncertainty, but it cannot make the decision for you.
Ask yourself:
- Do I want ayahuasca ceremony to be part of the retreat?
- Am I looking for meditation as my main discipline?
- Do I want a public meditation session or a private booking?
- Would I prefer facilitation in English or Spanish?
- Am I willing to do the integration homework after ceremony?
Do not choose Harmonica because you feel pressured to have a bigger or more intense experience. And do not choose a silent retreat because you hope silence will protect you from a conversation you already know you need to have.
Give yourself some compassion around the uncertainty. Also, do not use that compassion to postpone the decision for another year while keeping reading retreat pages and changing nothing.
Harmonica Retreat Package Prices
Harmonica publishes four retreat package prices. These amounts apply to the retreat packages and do not set a price for a standalone meditation class.
| Retreat Package | Published Price |
|---|---|
2.5 to 3-day retreat | $695 |
3.5 to 4-day retreat | $895 |
7-day retreat | $1,495 |
Private retreat for two | $750 |
The table lets you compare the published package lengths before speaking with Jenna. Ask her what is included in the package you are considering and which format matches your intention.
The private retreat price is published as $750 for two. Do not divide or extend that amount to another group size. Bring any different arrangement to the consultation call.
Use the Consultation to Decide
The 30-minute consultation call is free and is run by Jenna Ram. One of the four topics covered is whether this work is right for you at this moment in your life.
Use the call to explain what you mean when you say meditation retreat. Tell Jenna if you want silence, if ayahuasca is part of your intention, or if you are mainly interested in attending a meditation class. Those details give her something concrete to respond to.
You can also bring questions about package choice, English or Spanish facilitation, and the difference between a public meditation session and a private booking. If a medical or legal question needs outside professional advice, identify that before booking rather than making an assumption.
